Barry Van Dyke played Roger Bennett, Adam's college buddy, in the Tabitha pilot episode (1977).


Barry Wayne Van Dyke was born on July 31, 1951, in Atlanta, Georgia. He is the second son of legendary entertainer, Dick Van Dyke. He is best known by the public for his role as Detective Steve Sloan on Diagnosis Murder (1993).

Barry's television debut was as "Florian", a violin-toting nine-year-old in "The Dick Van Dyke Show: The Talented Neighborhood" episode (1962). He worked behind the scenes on subsequent ventures of his father's, and has co-starred with him in three series, The Van Dyke Show (1988), Diagnosis Murder (1993) and Murder 101 (2006). Barry's other television work includes Galactica 1980 (1980), Airwolf (1984) (fourth season), Gun Shy (1983), Mr. Mom (1983) and The Redd Foxx Show (1986), as well as numerous guest appearances. His films include Foxfire Light (1982), Ants! (1977) (aka ANTS!) and Casino (1980).

He attended Pierce Junior College in Los Angeles, majoring in Theater Arts. Barry met his wife, Mary, when they were both sixteen and he was working as a ticket-taker at a neighborhood movie theatre. Seven years later, they were married. They have four children. Barry is an avid motorcyclist with special enthusiasm for dirt bikes. He has participated in protest rides to preserve the rights of motorcyclists to fair use of public lands. He also loves to surf and once rescued a drowning person from the ocean off Baja.
