Biography[]
Bill Quinn was an American character actor. He was born William Tyrrell Quinn on May 6, 1912 in New York City. He was of Irish descent.
He was a child actor and made his Broadway debut as "Billy Quinn" in John L. Hobble's hit play Daddies at the age of 6. Then he pursued his acting career in vaudeville and the stage, and he appeared in silent films. He was also a longstanding performer in radio known for his work on Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch, which aired from 1935 to 1938, and the aptly-titled Just Plain Bill, which aired from 1931 to 1955.
Bald, skinny, and hollow-eyed, he started his acting career on television in 1949, playing the title role in "Joseph Clark, Philadelphia Reporter", an episode of the series The Big Story. Quinn's film credits included Otto Preminger's 1962 Advise & Consent, Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 The Birds, Alan Rafkin's 1971 How to Frame a Figg, and William Shatner's 1989 Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, where he played Dr. McCoy's father in what would be the final performance of his career.
Bill Quinn married Mary Catherine Roden on December 23, 1939. They had three daughters, Mary Ellen, Eileen, and Ginny, who married actor Bob Newhart on January 12, 1963.
Bill Quinn died of natural causes on April 29, 1994 in Camarillo, California. He was 81.
