Biography[]
Charlie Dugdale was an American radio announcer and television actor. He was born Charles Benjamin Dugdale on November 1, 1923 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
He moved to KCBS in 1965 from his hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska, where he was “Cactus Pete,” a comic Western character on radio, and from San Francisco, where he had The Charlie Dugdale Show on television and was a disc jockey and newscaster on radio. He also was involved in more than seventy episodes of the Salvation Army’s Heartbeat Theater radio drama series.
Dugdale worked as a television series actor, appearing regularly on The Dick Van Dyke Show, McHale’s Navy, The Fugitive, Bewitched and The Odd Couple.
Dugdale at his death was a staff announcer at KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, where he was heard on such shows as Scholar Quiz, Orson Bean and Other People and So You Think You Know L.A.?
Charlie Dugdale died of leukemia on May 18, 1985 in Burbank, California, aged 61. He was survived by his wife, Jeanette Catherine Mickey, and mother, Elizabeth.
