Daddy Comes for a Visit is the tenth episode of the sixth season and the 180th episode of the Bewitched series. The episode was completed by October 10, 1969. It is part one of two episodes.

Plot[]

Maurice pops into the Stephenses' house for a visit. When Samantha refuses to zap up the breakfast of his choice, a consequence of Darrin's rules prohibiting all witchcraft, except in cases of extreme emergency, Maurice turns his son-in-law into a dog. Sam protests and wants him back. Her father reverses the spell, but believes that if given a taste of witchcraft himself, Darrin would relish the life of a warlock. Under the guise of honoring his first grandson and to emphasize that if Samantha has lived as a mortal for five years, why does not Darrin live as a warlock for a day, Maurice gifts Darrin with a watch that can perform minimal witchcraft. At McMann & Tate, after a not entirely successful meeting with the father and son owners of the big account Bliss Pharmaceuticals, Darrin is invited by Maurice to take a lunch at a Hong Kong restaurant. Friendly, Maurice advises Darrin to use his watch to break the Blisses' resistance, but when Darrin refuses, Maurice hypnotizes him into changing his mind. Soon, Darrin obtains inside information on the Blisses' account and pops back to the office to persuade Larry to change their campaign. Proud of his new magical power, Darrin comes home and tells his wife that they are now going to live by witchcraft, which worries and upsets Samantha.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • The script of this episode and the next one is two-part rewrite of the original Season Five's "Daddy Does His Thing" which was also modified to exclude Dick York, playing Darrin, who was ill and collapsed on set during filming, which led to his departure from the series.
