Biography[]

Diana Chesney was born in Mandalay, Burma, where her father, a British Army major, was stationed, returning to England in her childhood. At the age of twelve she saw a Bette Davis movie and promptly decided to become an actress. After studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, she got her first part in a road company production of “Show Boat.” Then came four years in musical comedies, entertaining British and American troops in Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Libya. A train transporting the entertainers was once bombed by Hitler’s air force and she was never willing to take a train again.

After the war, Diana went into the movies, appearing in more than forty films including “The King and I” and “Saturday Night and Sunday Morning,” in a number of British television series, and continued her work in the theater.

In 1961, Diana was one of four British citizens brought over to Hollywood to play as the English family on “Fair Exchange,” television's first hour-long family comedy.

In America, she appeared in more than ten films, as well as thirteen television series, including “Ellery Queen,” “The Six-Million Dollar Man,” “The Monkees,” “Fantasy Island,” “McMillan and Wife,” Bewitched,” “The Doris Day Show” and “Hogan’s Heroes.”

Diana passed away in May 2004 of cancer. She was 87. [2]
