Elspeth is Samantha's childhood nanny. She is a Cockney with a bright and cheery disposition. Elspeth is wonderful with children and very dependable. Samantha calls upon her to babysit Tabatha when Endora is not available. Darrin is wary because he does not want another witch in the house.
Elspeth admires Samantha, now all grown up, and says she is a lady. She takes a shine to Darrin, saying he is sweet and kind, but needs a bit of fattening because he is all skin and bones. Elspeth says Tabatha is very intelligent and must get it from Darrin.
She changes Tabatha's spinach into a special spinach sundae. "It's not really ice cream, but oh how it fooled us little ones," Samantha tells Darrin.
She and Endora do not get along. When Endora threatens to zip up Darrin's mouth with a zipper, Elspeth defends and protects him. Grateful, Darrin welcomes Elspeth into their home.
She was formerly a servant of an aging warlock, Lord Clive Montdrako. She served him her notice, but he refuses to accept it and blames Darrin.
