Richard Libertini played French ski instructor and womanizer Jean Claude LeMatt in the Tabitha episode, Minerva Goes Straight (1977).
Biography[]
Richard Michael Libertini was a versatile character actor who was known for his ability to use various accents in his roles. He graduated from Emerson College in Boston and worked as a musician before moving to New York where he teamed up with former college classmates to create an off-Broadway revue called 'Stewed Prunes'. While touring in Chicago, he was asked to join the renowned Second City Improvisational Theatre Group.
He eventually moved to Los Angeles in the late 1960s where he found steady work in film and television. He had roles in such films as 'Don't Drink the Water' (1969), 'Catch-22' (1970), 'Days of Heaven' (1978), 'The In-laws' (1979), 'Popeye' (1980), 'Sharky's Machine' (1981), 'Going Berserk' (1983), 'Fletch' (1985), 'Awakenings' (1990), 'Nell' (1994), 'A Bright Shining Lie' (1998), 'Vendetta' (1999), 'Everybody Wants to Be Italian' (2007), 'Dolphin Tale' (2011) and 'How to Become an Outlaw' (2014).
On television he appeared on multiple episodes of 'Soap', 'Mary Hartman', 'Barney Miller', 'Jenny', 'The Fanelli Boys', 'Pacific Station', 'Murder, She Wrote', 'Family Man' and 'Law and Order'; and appeared in dozens of other television shows, including 'That Girl', 'Mary Tyler Moore', 'The Jeffersons', 'Mork & Mindy', 'Quincy, M.E.', 'Charlie's Angels', 'Fame', 'Murphy Brown', 'L.A. Law', 'Monk' and 'Numb3rs'.[2]
He married actress Melinda Dillon and they had one child, Richard. The marriage ended in divorce in 1978.[3] Libertini died on January 7, 2016, after a two-year battle with cancer. Survivors included his son Richard, sister Alice and brother Albert.[4]
