Her first two credited film roles were in two Douglas Sirk films: Magnificent Obsession in 1954, alongside Agnes Moorehead, and There's Always Tomorrow in 1956. She was also credited for roles in John Frankenheimer's 1964 Seven Days in May, Robert Aldrich's 1964 Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte, again alongside Agnes Moorehead, Billy Wilder's 1966 The Fortune Cookie, alongside Harry Holcombe, Noam Pitlik and Ned Glass, Delbert Mann's 1967 Fitzwilly, alongside John McGiver, John Fiedler, Noam Pitlik and Norman Fell, Blake Edwards' 1968 The Party, alongside Herb Ellis and Steve Franken, Silvio Narizzano's 1968 Blue, Paul Bogart's 1970 Halls of Anger, and Colin Higgins' 1982 The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
She also appeared in over eighty television series, including I Love Lucy, The Man Behind the Badge, Lux Video Theatre, Code 3, Climax!, Dragnet, The Loretta Young Show, Wanted: Dead or Alive, Bold Venture, The Deputy, Playhouse 90, The Donna Reed Show, Harrigan and Son, Pete and Gladys, Dennis the Menace, The Untouchables, The Twilight Zone, The Eleventh Hour, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Fugitive, Get Smart, The Patty Duke Show, Lost in Space, Perry Mason, Dr. Kildare, Death Valley Days, The Munsters, The Invaders, The Virginian, Here Come the Brides, Green Acres, Adam-12, Room 222, Bonanza, Gunsmoke, The Partridge Family, Eleanor and Franklin, Lou Grant, One Day at a Time, CHIPs, Little House on the Prairie, Simon & Simon, Highway to Heaven, The Love Boat, and The Golden Girls.

Helen Kleeb married John Gerald Prendergast on November 20, 1937. The birth of their son, Tom Pendergast, caused a hiatus in her career. Her husband died on August 17, 1950. Shortly after that, she began teaching drama at a college before she returned to acting. She married Elmer Garrison on April 18, 1959, and remained his wife until her death.
