How Green Was My Grass is the twenty-fourth episode of the fourth season and the 131st episode of the Bewitched series. The episode was completed by November 2, 1967.
Plot[]
When artificial grass is mistakenly installed in the Stephenses' yard, Darrin thinks Samantha zapped it there. After an argument, Darrin orders her to get rid of it. Angry, she zaps it away, but Endora removes her ability to bring it back. Tensions rise when the artificial lawn company and a belligerent neighbor Bill MacLane, who bought the artificial turf, want it back. To break the impasse, Samantha attempts to zap artificial grass onto Mr. MacLane's front yard, but only produces natural grass, leading the neighbor to want to punch Darrin in revenge for the theft he believes he is the victim of.
Trivia[]
General[]
- The title of this episode is a takeoff on the 1941 film How Green Was my Valley by John Ford, adapted from Richard Llewellyn's 1939 novel of the same title about the life of a hard-working Welsh mining family.
- Artificial grass was invented in 1964 and made famous for being inside the Houston Astrodome. For the 1968 viewers of this episode, the concept was still new and unusual.
Casting[]
- Agnes Moorehead did not appear (although Endora intervened by casting a spell and magically sending a message) and received credit only.
Bloopers and Continuity Errors[]
- One of the series' strangest continuity errors, the Stephenses' house number is changed from 1164 to 192 in this episode.
