Biography[]
Jack Griffin was an American actor. He was born John Joseph Griffin on August 25, 1928 in Jersey City, New Jersey.
In 1956, he worked as an electrician on the set of Michael Anderson's 1956 Around the World in 80 Days.
His first appearance in film was an uncredited role in Roger Corman's 1960 The Little Shop of Horrors.
He started his acting career in 1968 after meeting Jackie Coogan, who suggested that Jack was a natural. He first co-starred in the revival production of Neil Simon's play The Odd Couple, along with Hal March and Jackie Coogan. Jack played Murray the Cop.
He had a long career in the business spanning three decades.
He played minor roles in such television series as Adam-12, The Brady Bunch, The Doris Day Show, Mannix, The Red Skelton Show, All in the Family, Columbo, Kojak, Maude, Baretta, Starsky and Hutch, Charlie's Angels, Police Story, CHiPs, Tucker's Witch, and Down to Earth.
Griffin's film credits included John Derek's 1969 Childish Things, George Roy Hill's 1973 The Sting, Sidney J. Furie's 1976 Gable and Lombard, Howard Zieff's 1978 House Calls, Bruce Bilson's 1979 The North Avenue Irregulars, and Howard Zieff's 1980 Private Benjamin.
Jack Griffin married Linda Jane Cunningham on April 6, 1968. They had three children: John Griffin III, Joshua Griffin and Barbi O'Keefe.
He was a devoted family man, an ordained pastor and a long time friend of Bill W. Helping.
Jack Griffin died of lung cancer on December 15, 1988 in Georgia. He was 60.
