June Lockhart portrayed Mrs. Burns, Marshall's over protective mother, in the first season episode, "Little Pitchers Have Big Fears" (1964).

Biography[]

June Lockhart was born in New York, New York, on June 25, 1925. She is an actress, known primarily for her work in 1950s and 1960s television, but also with performances on stage and in film. She is a two-time Emmy Award nominee and a Tony Award winner.

Lockhart is best known for her roles as television mothers. She played Ruth Martin for five years (1958-1964) in the 1950s CBS series Lassie. Lockhart then starred as Dr. Maureen Robinson in Lost in Space (1965-1968) on CBS.

Her other television appearances include Perry Mason, Wagon Train, Cimarron City, Have Gun - Will Travel, Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Petticoat Junction, General Hospital, Magnum P.I., Full House, The Drew Carey Show, Cold Case and Grey's Anatomy.

In 1948, Lockhart won a Tony Award for Outstanding Performance by a Newcomer (a category that no longer exists) for her role on Broadway in "For Love or Money".

She has two daughters with her first husband, John F. Maloney - Anne Kathleen Lockhart (born 1953) and June Elizabeth Maloney (born 1956).
