Nellie Burt played Louise Tate's Aunt Harriet in "Tabatha's Cranky Spell" and the Stephenses' maid Amelia in "Samantha's Super Maid" (1968–1969).
Biography[]
Nellie Burt was an American actress. She was born Helen Presley Burt on January 4, 1900 in Aberdeen, Washington.
Her father was silent film actor and director William P. Burt (1873-1955). She was an eighth-generation theatrical performer. Her first film appearance was in George B. Seitz's 1919 action film The Lightning Raider, alongside her father. This was followed by roles in Seitz's 1919 Bound and Gagged and Frank Reicher's 1921 Idle Hands. She then appeared in several silent short films until 1924.
Meanwhile, she made her Broadway stage debut in 1921. She went on to play in eleven Broadway productions, including two hit comedies: Allan Scott and George Haight's Goodbye Again (1932-1933), in which she played a chambermaid at the Statler Hotel, and Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse's Life With Father (1939-1945), a stage adaptation based on short stories by Clarence Day. Her last Broadway stage performance was in N. Richard Nash's drama Girls of Summer (1956-1957).
Nellie Burt first appeared on television in the episode of The Big Story, "Jack Frank, Reporter" (season two, episode four) on October 27, 1950. She went on to have guest roles on numerous series, including Treasury Men in Action, Robert Montgomery Presents, My Three Sons, Dr. Kildare, Ben Casey, Perry Mason, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train, The Eleventh Hour, The Outer Limits, The Fugitive, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Invaders, The F.B.I., Love, American Style, and The Rookies.
She also played minor roles in two motion pictures: Arthur Penn's 1966 The Chase, and Philip Kaufman's 1972 The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid. Her last performance was in Leonard J. Horn's 1973 television film, The Bait, opposite June Lockhart and Noam Pitlik.
Nellie Burt married William Henry McMullen in 1925. They had one child. After a divorce, Nellie Burt married Paul Edward Martin (until his death on December 13, 1958).
Nellie Burt died on November 3, 1986 in East Rockaway, New York. She was 86.
