Serena is Samantha's lookalike cousin.
Looks and personality
Serena is a witch who tends to be a bit more progressive towards mortals than the rest of her family and loves to use her magic any time she wants. Her progressive nature has led her to follow Samantha's lead, and she has dated some mortals.
She is a bit of a hippie witch and is always getting on Samantha's nerves. Serena has a mark on her cheek that is different in every episode she is in, from a heart when she decides to try dating mortals to a fish during the Loch Ness episode.
Despite her constant plotting with Endora, she is in favor of Samantha and Darrin being married. This support led to her and Uncle Arthur losing their powers, when the Witches Council threatened to depower Samantha for her mixed marriage. In reality, Serena approves of Darrin and Samantha, although she does think that they are a bit square.
Portrayal
Although her appearance is different, Serena is occasionally used as a stand in for her cousin. This was why actress Elizabeth Montgomery played the dual role of Serena and Samantha in each of the former's appearances. When playing Serena, Montgomery was credited under the pseudonym "Pandora Spocks".
In some scenes with both Samantha and Serena in the shot, with no special effects used, Serena (or Samantha) is played by Melody McCord (with Montgomery's voice used), usually when she is seen from the behind.
