Plot[]

Endora casts a spell on Darrin to slowly transform her son-in-law into the nasty old witch he depicted her to be. She refuses to remove the spell until Samantha promises to cancel her Halloween festivities with Tabitha. But Samantha is participating in a good cause. She and Tabitha are preparing with the neighborhood children for the launch of the fundraising campaign for UNICEF. Despite this, Endora blames Darrin for leading them into yet another mortal tradition, this one which she sees as anti-witch. Although Darrin understands Endora's arguments, he does not appreciate her meddling. As Samantha tries to decide which side to side with, things get complicated with Darrin's latest client, Harold Bartenbach, who would like to use an ugly witch in his upcoming advertising campaign. However, his wife, Mrs. Bartenbach, is chair of the local chapter of the trick-or-treat for UNICEF campaign and wants Samantha to participate in the Halloween event. Darrin does not buy the idea of the witch for the ad campaign, but Samantha comes up with a way that they can still use a witch without being offensive and still contribute to the UNICEF fundraiser.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • The title is based upon the often used quote "To be, or not to be: that is the question"from William Shakespeare's play Hamlet (Act III, Scene I).
  • Towards the end of this episode, most of the dialog between Darrin, Larry and Harold Bartenbach is exactly the same as in Season One's "The Witches Are Out".
